Scrolling through my drafts folder reminded me that I started to write this very post back in 2015, but I must confess to having only been re-inspired to finish and publish it by this gorgeous post over on My Serene Words.
Twelve weeks at home has got me thinking a lot about the soundtrack to my own lockdown. Hands down the music in my ears of late has been Taylor Swift, thanks to a certain little lady in my life. I have grown to adore Swifty and have found in her work so many words that stick/resonate/become mind movies that mirror my own life and evoke serious nostalgia in my inner thoughts. That is her craft.
I have listed a few more of my favourite song lyrics of all time below (not just Tay-tay)!
In no particular order:
1. Lucky Man, The Verve
Something in my own place
I’m stood here naked
Smiling, I feel no disgrace
With who I am
2. You’re all I have, Snow Patrol
You’re cinematic razor sharp
A welcome arrow through the heart
Under your skin feels like home
Electric shocks on aching bones
3. Many of Horror, Biffy Clyro
I still believe
It’s you and me ’til the end of time.
When we collide we come together,
If we don’t we’ll always be apart
I’ll take a bruise, I know you’re worth it
When you hit me, hit me hard.
4. Style, Taylor Swift
Midnight, you come and pick me up, no headlights
Long drive, could end in burning flames or paradise
Fade into view, oh,
It’s been a while since I have even heard from you
(Heard from you)
And I should just tell you to leave ’cause I
Know exactly where it leads but I
Watch it go round and round each time
5. Green Light, Lorde
I do my makeup in somebody else’s car
We order different drinks at the same bars
I know about what you did and I wanna scream the truth
She thinks you love the beach, you’re such a damn liar. Sometimes I wake up in a different bedroom
I whisper things, the city sings them back to you
So, these are just a few of my favourite ever song lyrics, just for starters.
There are many, many more. It’s been hard to curate and carve up some of these songs to a few lines to be honest!
Do any of these resonate with you? What are your favourite lyrics?
